Support for Veterans: Where to find PTSD Resources

Categories: Blog, Home

In recognition of National PTSD Awareness Day, it is important to highlight that many servicemembers experience post-traumatic stress following their time in service. According to the PTSD Foundation of America, PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing a life-threatening event, such as military combat. PTSD involves symptoms such as reliving the traumatic event through flashbacks and nightmares, feelings of detachment, and difficulty sleeping, which can be severe enough to impact daily life.

PTSD is complicated by the fact that many who suffer do not seek treatment. A recent study conducted by the Brain Injury Law Center revealed that more than half of Veterans who likely have PTSD do not receive treatment. If left untreated, PTSD can lead to depression, suicidal tendencies, substance abuse, strained relationships, and poor work performance.

At Homes For Our Troops, we want all Veterans to know that reaching out for help is a courageous act. Our staff is always ready to provide assistance, share information or resources, or simply lend an ear.
