On November 11, 1919, President Woodrow Wilson issued a message commemorating the first Armistice Day to recognize the anniversary of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the guns finally fell silent to end the “War to End All Wars.” In 1938, Congress designated November 11th as a legal holiday known as Armistice Day. Unfortunately, not long after that, the United States was plunged into WWII, and then the Korean War. In 1954, Congress changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day, an observance honoring all who have served in the Armed Forces.
Since America’s founding, millions of brave women and men have defended and served our great Nation, protecting our freedoms throughout many conflicts and wars. Today’s Veterans represent eras from World War II and Korea, to Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan, as well as numerous other conflicts. These great Americans vary in age and experience, yet have one thing in common: they selflessly joined the military to fight for their country, asking for nothing in return. They, however, deserve everything. Many Servicemembers have sacrificed their lives, health, and precious time with their families in their service to their Country. At Homes For Our Troops, we believe restoring independence to severely injured post-9/11 Veterans with specially adapted custom homes is the least we can do for all they have sacrificed.

In our 22 years of Building Homes and Rebuilding Lives, Homes For Our Troops has built and donated 449 specially adapted custom homes to deserving Veterans across the nation.
