SGT PETER ROONEY

Worthington, MA

Mission Accomplished on March 13, 2010

Army Sergeant Peter Rooney lost both legs above the knee when the vehicle he was riding in hit a roadside bomb on April 16, 2007, in Ramadi, Iraq. Sgt Rooney joined the Army in 2001, just after his 18th birthday.

Peter enjoys spending time with his two daughters, Rhiannon and Scarlett. He is the manager of an electric bike share in Western Massachusetts. He enjoys fishing, and kayaking, and has completed several marathons on a hand cycle including the Boston Marathon, as well as the Berlin, Chicago, and New York City Marathons.

A specially adapted custom home for Peter addressed the daily challenges he faced while living in traditional housing. Peter would like HFOT donors and supporters to know he is grateful for their support. “Thank you to everyone who supported the building of my home. Without people like you, none of this would’ve been possible.”
