SGT DAVID EMERY

Centre County, PA

Mission Accomplished on July 24, 2011

On Feb. 7, 2007, Marine Sergeant David Emery was severely injured when a suicide bomber detonated a bomb at a checkpoint in Iraq. Sgt Emery, serving with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, had been assigned to assist with securing the area while high ranking officers were at the checkpoint. Upon completion of the mission, the bomb exploded.

Sgt Emery awoke unable to see or move his body. After being airlifted to Germany, he was flown to Bethesda Medical Center where he spent months in the ICU due to injuries and infections that required the amputation of both of his legs. Arriving at Walter Reed in June 2007, David underwent therapy and began using his prosthetic legs.

David enjoys spending time with his wife, Angel and his children. An outdoorsman at heart, David can be found 4-wheeling, hunting, fishing, and shooting in his free time. He also enjoys cooking for himself and others.
