Reflections on the 77th Anniversary of the D-Day Invasion

Categories: Blog, Home

Seventy-seven years ago, on the 6th of June, 1944, tens of thousands of Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors, and Coast Guardsmen entered the continent of Europe, and began what would be eleven months of intense combat to defeat the Third Reich, and free the citizens of Europe from the horrors of that repressive regime. Those brave Americans could not grasp the enormity of their mission as they waded ashore and jumped behind enemy lines, focused on securing their assault objectives and surviving the intense enemy fire they faced. The outcome was not guaranteed, but secure those objectives they did, and continued the attack east until completely defeating the Wehrmacht, and ending World War II in Europe.

Today the grandchildren and great grandchildren of these heroes continue the fight against those who would destroy our way of life and deny basic freedoms to the citizens of their countries. Daily they display the same courage, determination, and grit as their fore bearers as they defend our freedom and independence. Unfortunately, many have suffered grievous wounds and injuries that have robbed them of their freedom and independence.  That is where YOUR efforts come in. Because of you, Homes For Our Troops is able to donate specially adapted custom homes to these brave men and women, providing them a fully accessible foundation on which to rebuild their lives.

“Thank You” does not adequately convey our gratitude for your support of these tremendous Veterans. We look forward to continuing to work with you to support and honor these great Americans, as we remember the heroes of D-Day.
