Blaine Sullivan enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman at the age of 18 in 2009, joining the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. He loved the adrenaline rush he got while serving and the camaraderie.

On Nov. 22, 2010, months into his first deployment, the career Specialist Sullivan had grown to love came to an end. While carrying an injured comrade in Sangin, Afghanistan, SPC Sullivan was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED). The blast resulted in the loss of his right leg and severe damage to his right arm.

Once back in the United States, Blaine spent a year recovering at Balboa Naval Medical Center in California. His mother, Stacey, spent months at his side.

Now medically retired, Blaine lives with his son John. Receiving a specially adapted custom home provides Blaine with financial freedom, allowing him to save for John’s future. Blaine’s previous home was not accessible, making daily tasks a challenge. After a long day of wearing his prosthetic, he prefers to use his wheelchair at home. In his HFOT specially adapted custom home, he can easily prepare meals while using the roll-under sink and stove-top, as well as the lower countertops.

In addition to audio recording and DJ-ing, Blaine also enjoys water sports and staying in shape. He plans to participate in all of his son’s activities and looks forward to creating memories in their home.

Blaine chose to build his home in Las Vegas, where he was born and raised.

Blaine says he feels saying “Thank You” to HFOT’s donors and supporters is not enough. “Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected to be honored with such a generous gift. My family and I are beyond excited at the thought of me being in an environment which will truly give me independence and let me focus on healing,” he says. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much.”
