SFC Joshua Olson

Inspired by his family’s multigenerational tradition of military service, Josh Olson enlisted in the Army as an Infantryman in 1997. He went on to serve with the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division.
On October 27, 2003, Sergeant First Class Olson was on patrol in Iraq when his unit came under attack by a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG). The blast severely injured Josh, resulting in the loss of his right leg at the hip, a traumatic brain injury (TBI), and other injuries.
Josh was transported to Landstuhl, Germany, before returning stateside to Walter Reed Medical Center, where he spent more than a year and a half undergoing more than a dozen surgeries. After extensive rehabilitation, he remained on active duty for 14 years before retiring from the Army.
Today, Josh continues to serve his community by coaching high school football and running after-school and summer strength-and-conditioning programs. His commitment to mentoring young people and helping others reflects the same dedication to service that defined his military career.
Josh’s current non-adapted house is not wheelchair accessible, making it difficult for him to move throughout the house and get the rest and recovery he needs. A specially adapted custom HFOT home will provide the accessibility he needs to navigate his entire home safely and independently, while reducing the physical strain of everyday activities.
Originally from Washington State, Josh is proud to remain in his home state, where he values the atmosphere, lifestyle, and community.
