SGT Robert Bryant McNeill Jr.

Pamplico, SC

In 2007, Bryant McNeill enlisted in the Army to carry on his family’s legacy of military service, volunteering to serve as an Army Ranger.

On December 2, 2009, during his third deployment, Sergeant McNeill was serving as an Infantryman on a mission with the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment in Tikrit, Iraq, when he suffered gunshot wounds from enemy fire to his left leg and back. His injuries resulted in the amputation of his left leg below the knee, bilateral hearing loss, extensive nerve damage, tinnitus, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

He was airlifted to Baghdad for emergency surgery before transferring to Landstuhl, Germany for additional treatment. Stateside, he spent more than a year at Walter Reed Medical Center undergoing additional surgeries and rehabilitation.

Bryant is an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoys spending time with his wife, Jennifer. In his current home, he faces daily safety challenges navigating a home that is not adapted to his needs.

Receiving a specially adapted custom HFOT home with an open floor plan and accessible bathroom will alleviate daily obstacles. With the freedom and independence Bryant will regain, he looks forward to the time and energy he will have to focus on his hobbies and giving back to the community.

Originally from South Carolina, Bryant is choosing to remain in his home state.

Bryant wants HFOT donors and supporters to know he is grateful for their support. “Knowing there are people willing to take care of Veterans in such a tremendous and life-altering way makes me feel that much prouder to have served this great country. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
