SSG MATTHEW KEIL

Parker, CO

Mission Accomplished on Sept. 27, 2008

Army Staff Sergeant Matthew Keil volunteered for his first tour in Iraq because he was single and hoped to take the place of someone who was married or had children. He returned home safely from that deployment, later married, and was then sent back to Iraq as the very type of Soldier he had once volunteered to replace. On his second tour, at just 25 years old, SSG Keil was struck by sniper fire near Ramadi. The injuries left him paralyzed from the neck down, though he has since regained some use of his left arm.

Now medically retired, Matthew is a proud father of twins, Faith and Matthew. A specially adapted custom HFOT home with an open layout allows Matthew to access every room from his wheelchair easily and safely. The mortgage-free home has allowed him to spend more time with family and doing the things he enjoys.

Matthew would like to thank HFOT donors and supporters for their generosity. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he says. “This house has changed our lives.”
