SPC Joseph “Tyler” Smith

PENSACOLA, FL

Mission Accomplished on April 6, 2024

Following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Joseph “Tyler” Smith joined the military to serve his country. He enlisted in the Army to gain life experience.

On May 28, 2012, during his first deployment, Specialist Smith, an IT specialist, was serving with 3rd Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division when he had an aneurysm while in Ghazni, Afghanistan. As a result, Tyler lost the use of his right leg, and experiences right-hand peripheral neuropathy as well as other symptoms affecting his emotions.

Medically retired, Tyler’s former apartment was non-adapted, with stairs throughout the complex. A specially adapted custom HFOT home enables him to live safely and mitigates his risk of falling. The financial stability of a mortgage-free home will allow him to spend more time doing the things he loves, including building computers, traveling, and paying it forward by helping others.

Originally from Georgia, Tyler chose to build his home in Florida.
