Since moving into their specially adapted custom home in West Virginia on Dec. 19, 2015, Army Sergeant Charles “Doug” Harris and his wife Autumn have adopted seven children. They say they would not have been able to do this without a barrier-free environment where Doug can care for his children from the comfort of his wheelchair anywhere, including the bedrooms and the paved walkway outside.
“If we didn’t have this home, it would have been years before we could have started to foster and adopt. Because our home is mortgage-free and adapted to our needs, this was possible for us,” Autumn says.
This Thanksgiving, we thank YOU, our Homes For Our Troops supporters, for giving severely injured Veterans like Doug the gift of their forever homes, where they can share memories with their families that will last a lifetime. Because of your commitment to our mission, there are over 345 severely injured post-9/11 Veterans celebrating the holiday safely and comfortably in their homes.
Happy Thanksgiving from your HFOT Family.
