Homes For Our Troops is taking part in the 24-hour global generosity movement, Giving Tuesday on Nov. 30, 2021! We hope you will join us in reaching our goal of $500,000. This year we have the special opportunity of a challenge match to potentially raise $1 million dollars total, but only when we reach our $500,000 goal! Your donation could help us achieve double the impact with an additional $500,000 generously donated from The Andresen Family Foundation.
Our goal of $500,000 will cover the cost of crucial life-changing features including automatic door openers, safe rooms, and backup generators for 20 of the specially adapted custom homes to be built next year.
Automatic door openers in Homes For Our Troops homes enable hands-free accessibility for Veterans when entering or exiting the home in their wheelchairs. Safe rooms are crucial for injured Veterans because they provide a secure location to safeguard themselves and their families during severe weather and natural disasters. The room, which doubles as the master bedroom closet, is built to FEMA standards and enables Veterans to charge their prosthetics and electric wheelchairs with the electricity from the backup generator. In addition, the backup generator enables our Veterans to continue controlling their homes’ heating & cooling systems during power outages, and keeps their home safe and operational.
By joining us on Giving Tuesday, you will help open the door to new opportunities for 20 severely injured post-9/11 Veterans, and if we reach our goal, your impact will make a difference for even more of these great Americans.
Since 2004, Homes For Our Troops has built over 320 specially adapted homes nationwide. Our goal is to build a home for every Veteran who qualifies for one. Regaining their independence in an HFOT home, Veterans are free to focus on their recovery and achieving their goals.
