Cpl Eddie Ward
San Antonio, FL
Inspired to carry on his family’s legacy of military service, Eddie Ward enlisted in the Army.
On May 1, 2011, during his first combat deployment, Corporal Ward was serving as an Indirect Fire Infantryman with the 502nd Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division in Afghanistan when he kneeled on a landmine. He sustained the loss of his right leg above the knee, hearing loss, tinnitus, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
He was airlifted to Kandahar Airfield for immediate treatment before transferring to Landstuhl, Germany. Stateside, he underwent additional surgeries and rehabilitation at Brooke Army Medical Center.
Eddie is a scuba diving instructor and enjoys kayaking and traveling. He’s currently pursuing a degree in anthropology. His current multilevel residence has narrow doorways and hallways, making it difficult for him to navigate from room to room. The driveway is set on a steep incline, posing additional safety hazards.
A specially adapted custom HFOT home with a single-level, open floor plan will provide a safe and secure environment. The wider doorways and hallways will allow Eddie to access every room of the home in his wheelchair.
Originally from Texas, Eddie is choosing to live in Tampa, Florida.
Eddie would like to express his gratitude to HFOT donors and supporters. “Thank you for all you have done to support Veterans. You are the pillar we lean on in our most challenging and best times.”
