SPC Seth Wakeling
Fallbrook, CA
Inspired to serve his country from a young age, Seth Wakeling enlisted in the Army in 2012.
On September 26, 2013, SPC Wakeling was serving as a Combat Engineer with Alpha Company, Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division in Afghanistan when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED), resulting in severe injuries to his left foot and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
He was airlifted to FOB Shank for immediate treatment for the loss of his left foot before transferring to Bagram and then Landstuhl, Germany. Stateside, he underwent more than fifteen surgeries at Walter Reed Medical Center where his left leg was ultimately amputated below the knee.
Seth and his wife, Adriana, are parents to Jeremiah, Isaac, and Benjamin. They own Breaking Bread 406, a home-based sourdough bread company. Seth is also a volunteer firefighter and works seasonally with the US Forestry Service.
While Seth has adapted to his injuries, his current home is wheelchair inaccessible. A specially adapted custom HFOT home featuring a walkway around the entire house will grant him the freedom and independence to navigate safely both inside and outside using his wheelchair. The home will provide Seth with a safe environment to rest and recover.
Originally from Arizona, Seth is choosing to build his home in California to be close to family and friends.
Seth would like to thank HFOT donors and supporters for making a difference in injured Veterans lives. “Not being able to properly recover at home is a big hindrance to life outside the home. Without all of the donations from people like you to people and families like me, the world would be a darker place.”
