Marine LCpl Mark Seifert

Inspired to serve his country after 9/11, Mark Seifert enlisted in the Marine Corps.
On March 7, 2004, Lance Corporal Seifert was serving as an Airfield Rescue Firefighter with Airfield Company, Marine Wing Support Squadron, 374th Marine Air Wing in Baghdad, Iraq, when his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) blast. A firefight with insurgents followed the blast. Mark suffered a gunshot wound to his left leg, shrapnel injuries, partial hearing loss, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
He was evacuated to Landstuhl, Germany, for immediate treatment before returning stateside to Balboa Naval Hospital. In 2010, after multiple limb salvage surgeries, his left leg was amputated below the knee.
Mark and his wife, Kate, share a blended family of six children. Mark enjoys metalworking, gunsmithing, and powerlifting.
Originally from Minnesota, Mark is choosing to remain in his home state.
