LCpl Samuel R. Sedillo
Severance, CO
Inspired by a sense of duty to serve his country, Samuel Sedillo enlisted in the Marines in 2008.
On January 20, 2010, Lance Corporal Sedillo was serving as a combat engineer with the 2nd Platoon, Mobility Assault Company, 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion in Afghanistan when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED). He suffered severe injuries to his lower body, resulting in the amputation of his right leg below the knee and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
He was airlifted to Bagram Air Base before transferring to Landstuhl, Germany. Stateside, he underwent surgeries at Bethesda Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Medical Center before transferring to Balboa Naval Medical Center for additional rehabilitation and therapy.
Sam enjoys spending time with Megan, his significant other, and his two children, Ella and Alexander. He also fishes and hunts in his spare time and is an active member of the Union Colony Marines, Detachment 1093 in Greeley, Colorado.
Sam’s current living situation prevents him from using a wheelchair. A specially adapted custom HFOT home will give him the independence and safety he needs. “The adaptations that would most help me and my family are the single-level layout, accessible bathing areas, and wheelchair-accessible floor plan,” he says.
Originally from Colorado, Sam is choosing to remain in his home state.
Sam would like to extend his gratitude to HFOT donors and supporters. “None of this would be possible without your kindness and generosity. It is truly remarkable that you have put in so much time, effort, and financial resources to provide independence and hope to people you don’t know.”
