MSG Daniel Robles

Garden Ridge, TX

Mission Accomplished on Nov. 11, 2011

In April 2006, Army Master Sergeant Daniel Robles was leading a mission to investigate a possible weapons cache site in Baghdad, Iraq, when his vehicle drove over an improvised explosive device (IED), resulting in the amputation of his legs.

He was medically evacuated to a local hospital before transferring to Landstuhl, Germany. Stateside, he was transported to Walter Reed Medical Center for additional treatment. He received extensive therapy and rehabilitation at Brooke Army Medical Center.

Daniel and Ernestine, his wife of more than 30 years, enjoy camping, skiing, and kayaking. Their daughter, Mary, graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in history and political science. Daniel is the Skills4Life program manager for Military Warriors Support Foundation.

In 2024, Daniel was the first double amputee to make it to the summit of Gold Star Peak in Alaska. In October 2026, he reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro with fellow HFOT Veterans Marine Sergeant (ret) Adam Kisielewski, Army Sergeant Chris Short, and HFOT Board Director Dan Fougere on a climb with No Person Left Behind Outdoors, a Veteran-focused nonprofit focused on the transformative power of outdoor activities for combat Veterans.

Daniel would like to thank HFOT donors and supporters for their generosity. “We’ve been in our home for fourteen years now. We have stability, our basic needs are more than being met, and now we are enjoying life as empty nesters. I’ve come full circle. From serving in the Army at my best, to recovering at my lowest, to climbing Africa’s highest peak, I’ve learned that the right support can make the impossible possible. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Homes For Our Troops. The home I received gave me stability, independence, and peace, the foundation that allowed me to rebuild, grow, and continue pursuing new challenges. Even as an amputee, I can continue to achieve, explore, and to find purpose. Thank you so much.”
