LTC Toby Prudhomme

Cameron, NC

Toby Prudhomme served a year in the military in Korea before beginning his studies at West Point in 1992. Four years later, he was commissioned as an Infantry officer in the Army.

On his fifth deployment, Lieutenant Colonel Prudhomme was assigned to US CENTCOM, Information Operations, International Security Assistance Force in Kabul, Afghanistan, when he began experiencing back and hip pain. Stateside, he was diagnosed with service-related nerve damage from operations he had conducted on his first four tours, ultimately resulting in the below-the-knee amputation of his left leg.

Toby and his wife, Lisa, share a blended family of six children and five grandchildren. Toby is a professional sport shooter and the founder of Extreme Adventures, a nonprofit organization focused on providing outdoor experiences to Veterans and their families.

Toby prefers to remove his prosthetic at home, but his current multi-level house often requires him to put it back on to navigate upstairs. A specially adapted custom HFOT home with a single-level open floor plan will enable him to use his wheelchair comfortably, reducing the risk of further injury.

Originally from Louisiana, Toby is choosing to build his home in North Carolina, where he currently resides.

Toby would like to thank HFOT donors and supporters for their generosity. “Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be the beneficiary of something so meaningful for me and my family. Thank you for helping me, my fellow Veterans, and our families. We are forever indebted to your kindness.”
