MSgt Gabriel Guest

Helotes, TX

On August 10, 2008, then Staff Sergeant Guest was serving as an Infantry unit leader with Fox Company, 3rd Platoon, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment in Afghanistan on his fourth combat deployment when his vehicle drove over an improvised explosive device (IED). He sustained severe leg injuries and a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

He was medically evacuated to Camp Bastion for life-saving treatment before transferring to Landstuhl, Germany. Stateside, Gabriel underwent more than 33 surgeries and extensive therapy at the Naval Medical Center. After four years of limb salvage surgery, his left leg was amputated above the knee. Gabe served in the Marines for 22 years before retiring as a Master Sergeant.

Gabe and his wife, Danette, share a blended family of six adult children. They are active members of their church community and cherish spending time with their grandchildren. Together, they teach adaptive Jiu-Jitsu to injured Veterans and also enjoy SCUBA diving.

Originally from Texas, Gabe is choosing to remain in his home state.
