Sgt William Finck
McClure, PA
Inspired by his family’s legacy of military service, William Finck enlisted in the Marines in 2004 at nineteen years old.
On January 28, 2006, Sergeant Finck was serving as an Infantry assaultman with India Company, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines on his first deployment to Iraq. While providing security during an operation, he was knocked off a second story roof by an RPG blast. He was treated for his injuries in theater and finished his deployment.
Years later, and after a second deployment to Iraq, William developed numbness caused by the initial back injury, and underwent spinal surgery to decompress his spine. Despite extensive treatment, including neurology care, increased physical therapy, a later spinal fusion, and the implantation of a pain pump in his abdomen, his condition did not improve. After years of unsuccessful attempts at rehabilitation, he was forced to medically retire from service. Ultimately, due to the permanent impact of the injury and lack of recovery despite prolonged treatment, he was later rated as having loss of use of both legs.
William and his wife, Kelly, are parents to William, Aidan, and Anya. William’s primary focus is spending time with his children. In addition to family activities, he enjoys spending some of his spare time reading books.
Originally from New Jersey, William is choosing to build his home in Pennsylvania, where he currently resides.
