CPT Christian “Chris” Fierro

Liberty Hill, TX

In 2004, drawn by the honor of serving his country, Chris Fierro graduated from West Point and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army.

On August 16, 2006, First Lieutenant Fierro was serving as a Field Artillery officer with the 4th Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division in Baghdad, Iraq, when he suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

He was airlifted to Balad before transferring to Landstuhl, Germany, for surgery. Stateside, he underwent nearly two years of limb salvage surgeries in multiple hospitals, ultimately leading to the below-the-knee amputation of his left leg. Chris medically retired from the Army in 2009.

Chris and his wife, Jessica, are proud parents to Laci and Lena. They enjoy hiking in the vast areas of Central Texas. Although Chris lives an active lifestyle, he wears his prosthetic most of the day, causing discomfort. In his current home, he refers to taking a shower as a “gymnastics event” and looks forward to having a roll-in shower to reclaim more time in his daily life.

A specially adapted custom HFOT home with a walkway around the entire house will allow Chris to be in his wheelchair more often. The freedom the home will provide gives his family peace of mind. “A specially adapted HFOT home would be a life-changing experience from start-of-day to end-of-day,” he says.

Originally from Texas, Chris is choosing to remain in his home state.

Chris would like to express his gratitude to HFOT donors and supporters for their generosity. “You are truly changing the lives of American defenders of freedom and forever impacting those around them. It is Patriots such as yourselves that show us what America stands for and how it supports those who fight for our freedoms. You are giving more than the gift of a home but strengthening the foundations of life.”
