CPL Nicholas Clark

Eatonville, WA

Motivated to serve his country after the 9/11 attacks, Nicholas Clark enlisted in the Army in 2005.

On June 2, 2007, Corporal Clark was serving as an Infantry machine gunner with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in Afghanistan when he was severely injured in a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack. He sustained shrapnel injuries and the loss of his left heel, resulting in the below-the-knee amputation of his left leg.

He was airlifted to Bagram Air Base for immediate treatment before transferring to Landstuhl, Germany. Stateside, he received additional surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center before undergoing extensive rehabilitation at the Center for the Intrepid at Brooke Army Medical Center in Texas.

Nick and his wife, Kirsten, enjoy spending time outdoors with their two children, Stella and Lowell. Nick is a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the VFW. In their current non-adapted home, Nick is unable to navigate safely in his wheelchair.

A specially adapted custom HFOT home will allow unrestricted wheelchair access to every room, increasing his mobility. “Being able to use my wheelchair freely will be a huge help to me. A roll-in shower and therapy tub will make showers and baths much easier and safer for me,” he says.

Originally from Washington State, Nick is choosing to remain in his home state.

Nick would like HFOT donors and supporters to know the impact of their generosity. “This home will change our lives forever—thank you for giving my family this opportunity and for everything you do to help Veterans.”
