SPC Andrew Wilson

Nolensville, TN

Mission Accomplished on Nov. 9, 2013

Oct. 19, 2011, Army Specialist Andrew Wilson was serving on his first deployment in Kandahar, Afghanistan when he was severely injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast while on a foot patrol, resulting in the traumatic amputation of his legs.

He was medically evacuated to a local hospital before transferring to Landstuhl, Germany. Stateside, he underwent extensive rehabilitation and therapy at Walter Reed Medical Center.

Andrew received his specially adapted custom HFOT home in 2013. He and his wife, Thabata, welcomed their daughter, Summer, in 2023. Andrew enjoys running, scuba diving, and target shooting. Andrew is actively pursuing a degree in physical therapy at Lipscomb College.

A Tennessee native, Andrew chose to build in his home state to be close to family and friends.

Andrew would like to express his profound gratitude to HFOT donors and supporters for the gift of his forever home. “Having an adapted home provides a comfort physically, mentally, and financially, which greatly reduces anxiety about my future—something I have worried about since the moment of my injury. Thank you for supporting me and this amazing organization.”
