Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) is honored to partner in a groundbreaking initiative announced by Meta on June 12: the donation of Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses to 130,000 blinded Veterans across the United States—the single largest device donation in the company’s history.
This unprecedented effort will provide eligible blinded Veterans with access to innovative AI-powered smart glasses designed to enhance independence, accessibility, and engagement with the world around them. To ensure recipients can maximize the benefits of this technology, the donation will be paired with specialized training developed by the Blinded Veterans Association (BVA).
The initiative aligns closely with Homes For Our Troops’ mission of helping severely injured post-9/11 Veterans rebuild their lives through increased independence and accessibility. By connecting Veterans with cutting-edge assistive technology, this partnership represents another step forward in empowering those who have sacrificed in service to our nation.
“At Homes For Our Troops, the most important part of our mission is to enable severely injured post-9/11 Veterans to rebuild their lives and reclaim their independence and dignity. We are proud to partner with Meta on this innovative initiative, bringing Meta’s AI-powered smart glasses to the blind Veterans we serve. Technology has the power to break down barriers and create new opportunities, and this partnership represents another meaningful step toward helping our Veterans engage more fully with the world around them. Together with Meta, we are expanding possibilities, restoring freedom and independence, and supporting our Veterans as they build brighter futures in their homes and the communities where they have chosen to live,” said HFOT President/CEO Brigadier General, USA (Ret.) Tom Landwermeyer.
As part of this collaboration, Homes For Our Troops is also coordinating with Meta to present a pair of Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses to Army Sergeant First Class Aaron Cornelius, who lost his vision after sustaining injuries in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast while serving in Iraq. The presentation will create a meaningful opportunity to demonstrate the life-changing impact this technology can have for the blind Veterans we serve.
The occasion is especially significant for Homes For Our Troops, as SFC Cornelius will receive HFOT’s 50th specially adapted custom home built and donated in the state of Florida. This milestone reflects the organization’s continued commitment to restoring freedom and independence for severely injured Veterans and their families.
We are grateful to Meta and the Blinded Veterans Association for their leadership and commitment to improving the lives of blinded Veterans nationwide.
