SSgt Jose Sanchez

Jose Sanchez enlisted in the Marines in 2003, drawn by the promise of structure and new opportunities.

On October 22, 2011, Staff Sergeant Sanchez was serving as a radio chief with Bravo Company, 1st Brigade Supporting Arms Liaison Team, 1st Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO) in Afghanistan when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED). He sustained a traumatic amputation of his left leg below the knee, right leg damage, hearing loss, and burns.

He was medically evacuated to Landstuhl, Germany, before returning stateside to Brooke Army Medical Center for additional surgery and extensive rehabilitation.

Jose is the proud father of Kaidence and Camila. He uses social media as a platform to inspire and motivate individuals from all walks of life by sharing his personal journey. Jose also founded a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering, encouraging, and motivating others to overcome adversity and rise above life’s challenges.

Originally from Texas, Jose is choosing to remain in his home state.
