For many of the families we serve, Mother’s Day is more than a moment of appreciation. It is shaped by quiet courage, resilience, and the daily victories that follow life-changing challenges.
For Lauren Jaye, wife of Army Sergeant Kevin Jaye, the journey to motherhood has been defined not only by love, but also by strength and adaptation. After Kevin was severely injured in Afghanistan in 2012, the couple faced a daily reality filled with physical limitations, emotional strain, and a home that no longer supported the life they were trying to build.
“We lived in an older home with narrow doorways. The bedrooms were upstairs and the kitchen was downstairs,” Lauren shares. “Kevin couldn’t use a wheelchair. It was actually in the storage unit because there was no way he could use it.”
The challenges of daily care, accessibility, and Kevin’s recovery made it difficult to imagine what the future might look like and whether starting a family might be possible.
That changed in 2016 when the Jayes received a specially adapted custom HFOT home, a gift that has had a profound impact on their lives.
“We went from a small house with lots of steps to a fully accessible space that truly fits our family and Kevin’s needs. Because of that, Kevin has been able to do all the things he dreamed of doing as a dad, and he continues to do them every day,” Lauren says.
Now parents to 9-year-old Claire and 5-year-old Lucy, Lauren and Kevin continue to build a life grounded in love, resilience, and hope.
Since moving into their HFOT home, Lauren has completed her graduate studies, earning a master’s degree in education. She is a dedicated stay-at-home mother and is actively involved as the co-president of the parent-teacher organization at her daughters’ school.
Kevin has also achieved goals that once felt out of reach. He earned a bachelor’s degree and works full-time as an IT specialist at an elementary school. In addition to his professional responsibilities, he is active in his community, serving as a coach for his daughter’s baseball team.
Because of you, our incredible donors and supporters, injured Veterans and their families are given the foundation for a renewed and brighter future. We also proudly recognize the dedication of mothers like Lauren, whose daily efforts build safe, stable homes and stronger communities.
Thank you for giving families like the Jayes the greatest gift of all: a safe place to heal, grow, and thrive.
Happy Mother’s Day from Homes For Our Troops.
