CPL De’Shawn Kittrell

On September 27, 2012, Corporal Kittrell was serving as an Infantryman with the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division in Afghanistan when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED). He sustained the loss of his right leg below the knee, shrapnel injuries to his left arm, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
He was medically evacuated to Kandahar Airfield for immediate treatment before transferring to Landstuhl, Germany. Stateside, he underwent additional therapy and extensive rehabilitation at Walter Reed Medical Center.
De’Shawn and his partner, Rachel Posey, are proud parents of five children: Rayniah, Rayhnelle, Desiray, Donovan, and De’Angelo. De’Shawn enjoys spending time with his children, whether it’s exploring parks, walking trails, visiting indoor theme parks, or simply playing at home.
Originally from Maryland, De’Shawn is choosing to remain in his home state.
