LCpl Evan Reichenthal
Bedford, NH
Evan Reichenthal knew from a young age that he wanted to serve his country. In 2009, he enlisted in the Marines.
On January 5, 2011, Lance Corporal Reichenthal was serving as an Infantry mortarman with the Weapons Platoon, Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines in Afghanistan when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED), resulting in the traumatic amputation of his right leg below the knee, severe injuries to his right arm, burns to his lower body, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
He was airlifted to Bagram Air Base before transferring to Landstuhl, Germany. Stateside, he was placed in a medically induced coma at Walter Reed Medical Center. Evan underwent dozens of surgeries, extensive rehabilitation, and a year-long limb salvage effort to save his right arm.
Evan is in his final semester of law school. Following an internship as a student prosecutor with the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office, he hopes to continue serving the public as a prosecutor. In his spare time, he is an avid gamer and fitness enthusiast.
A specially adapted custom HFOT home will give Evan access to the entire home from his wheelchair. Special adaptations such as automatic doors, accessible walkways around the home, and pull-down shelving will make everyday tasks easier. He looks forward to the open floor plan and accessible shower, features that will make life less challenging. “The biggest blessing for me is an adaptive bathroom. Having a shower that doesn’t support my needs is extremely difficult,” says Evan.
Originally from Massachusetts, Evan is choosing to build his home in New Hampshire to be close to family and friends.
Evan would like to thank HFOT donors and supporters for the gift of a forever home. “I realize I cannot adequately express my gratitude to those who have contributed to this effort, but I can make a promise that I will live up to my full potential and continue to serve my community in the years to come. You have given me a home and a place to raise a family. I am immensely grateful.”
