SGT Michael Gallardo

In 2004, Michael Gallardo enlisted in the Army, inspired to serve his country after the 9/11 attacks.

On February 7, 2007, during his first combat deployment, Sergeant Gallardo was serving as a cavalry scout with the 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division in Iraq when he was injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast. He sustained severe damage to his left foot, a broken wrist, tinnitus, and TBI.

He was medically evacuated to Landstuhl, Germany before returning stateside to Brooke Army Medical Center. After 26 surgeries, doctors amputated his left leg below the knee.

Michael enjoys spending time with his fiancée, Jahnean, and their two children, Tristian and Oliver.

Originally from California, Michael is choosing to remain in his home state.
