Army Sergeant Nathan Shumaker and his family have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
Homes For Our Troops recently kicked off the building of their specially adapted custom home in Missouri. It won’t be long before Nathan can comfortably enjoy time with loved ones in his forever home. He and his wife Missy love the holidays, but they cannot host because their home is not adapted. Nathan often becomes discouraged because there is little space for him to use his wheelchair when his prosthetic becomes too painful to wear. During the holidays, it’s tiresome for the family to travel to friends and family, not knowing if their homes will be adapted to Nathan’s injuries. Once they receive their HFOT home, Nathan will be able to host gatherings without jeopardizing his comfort and safety. He is especially looking forward to cooking, something he loves to do but can’t in his current environment.
“We look forward to hosting family get-togethers and holidays in our new home. We will have an ample amount of space for family and all the kids to run around and play,” says Nathan.
Before you gather at the table with loved ones today, we would like to express our deep appreciation to you for providing Veterans like Nathan with barrier-free homes, where they can continue rebuilding their lives.
Your HFOT Family.
