HM3 JOE DAN WORLEY

Douglasville, GA

Mission Accomplished on Oct. 22, 2006

On September 17, 2004, HM3 Joe Dan “Doc” Worley, a Navy Corpsman assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, was on his first deployment when he was injured in Iraq. While rushing to the aid of a wounded Marine, Joe-Dan lost his left leg to an improvised explosive device (IED) and sustained five gunshot wounds to his right leg, leaving that leg severely damaged.

HFOT purchased a handicap accessible home for Joe-Dan and his family in Douglasville, Ga., and made modifications to include widening interior doors for wheelchair accessibility, new flooring, a wheelchair ramp, and cosmetic improvements as well. The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund provided a $20,000 donation toward this project.
