SPC BRYANT JACOBS

Salt Lake City, UT

Mission Accomplished on Sept. 12, 2009

Army Specialist Bryant Jacobs was serving in Iraq when he was severely injured on Dec. 3, 2004. With just a month to go of his year-long tour of duty, Bryant was injured when his HMMWV was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED), which instantly killed another Soldier in his unit. The team was conducting a routine route clearance and was on a return sweep when the IED exploded. The blast hit the passenger side of the HMMWV, throwing Jacobs from the vehicle.

Homes For Our Troops presented Bryant with his specially adapted custom home in September 2009. Since then he’s held an annual golf tournament for HFOT to pay it forward to Homes For Our Troops, raising almost $80,000 in seven years. Bryant married his wife, Michele, in September 2013. In 2014, Bryant had his right leg voluntarily amputated due to lingering wartime injuries.

He says, “Honestly, words can’t describe how thankful I am for a fully accessible home. It’s little things, like taking a shower, that are easier again.”

Thank you to all who supported the building of SPC Bryant Jacobs’ home, we could not have done it without your support.
