SSG DWAYNE A. COLE

Henrico, VA

Mission Accomplished on June 19, 2010

Army Staff Sergeant Dwayne A. Cole was severely injured while deployed to Iraq in early 2007. A bullet that entered his neck at extremely close range lodged near his spinal column, paralyzing him from the neck down.

Lifesaving measures enabled SSG Cole to be airlifted to Balad, Iraq, and eventually to Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he began his journey to recovery during his six-month stay. SSG Cole continues to work diligently to regain movement and function and has most recently had success rebuilding the muscles in his hands. He enjoys helping those less fortunate and one day hopes to become a peer counselor for those with spinal cord injuries.

Special thank you to everyone who supported this project. We could not have done this without the support of the community.
